Firefighters Battle 2 Residential Fires In RivCo Thursday Morning

A blaze in Moreno Valley caused one person to be taken to the hospital, and another family was displaced in Jurupa Valley.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — Two residential fires broke out Thursday morning, and Cal Fire/Riverside County Firefighters were there to knock down the blazes.

The Riverside County Fire Department reported the blaze at 11000 block of Holmes Ave., near Smith Avenue, on the extreme west end of the city, just after 8 a.m. Thursday.

The agency said multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered smoke billowing from the single-story residence.

Crews got the fire under control within an hour. However, according to officials at the scene, the damage was extensive. Red Cross personnel were requested to assist the two adult occupants in finding temporary alternate lodgings.

The cause of the blaze was under investigation.

According to Cal Fire, Riverside County Sheriff's Department handled the investigation into that incident.

A second single-story home erupted in flames at 8:45 a.m. in the 11000 block of Sunglow Drive in Moreno Valley, Cal Fire said.

One person inside the house was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

When firefighters arrived, they found "heavy fire was showing through the roof of a single-story home," said a Cal Fire spokesperson.

Six engines were at the scene and were likely to remain in the area until about noon. SoCal Edison teams were also called to evaluate the home and neighboring properties.

No additional information about what caused either blaze was immediately available. According to Cal Fire, the blazes were not thought to be related.
