MENIFEE, CA — A 12-year-old special needs child in a wheelchair became stuck in an elevator Thursday in Menifee, requiring firefighters to perform a rescue operation to extricate her.

The entrapment was reported about 3:50 p.m. at a property in the 31000 block of Larchwood Street, near Holland Road, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

Due to apparent electrical problems, the youngster was unable to move the elevator between the first and second floors, fire officials said. Crews reached the location within a few minutes and pried open the elevator doors to free the girl, whose name was not released.
