Half Of Westbound 91 Freeway To Close, Expect Weekend Delays

"Motorists should allow extra travel time and avoid the area if possible."

CORONA, CA — Half of the westbound Riverside (91) Freeway in Corona will be shut down Friday night for road work, and motorists are being advised to be prepared for delays.

The Riverside County Transportation Commission reported that four lanes between Interstate 15 and Lincoln Avenue, a roughly one-mile stretch, will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday for pavement repairs.

Two regular lanes and the two toll lanes on the westbound 91 will remain open for the duration of the work, but a detour will also be available through downtown Corona to avoid the squeeze, according to RCTC.

"Motorists should allow extra travel time and avoid the area if possible," agency spokesman John Standiford said.

He said additional closures will be required on both sides of the 91 during the weekend of July 11-12.

All of the work is part of the $472 million Interstate 15 Express Lanes Project, which has entailed expanding I-15 between the Pomona (60) Freeway in Eastvale and Cajalco Road on the south edge of Corona, covering about 15 miles.

Work began in March 2018 and is slated to conclude this fall.
