Heavy Rain Forecast Throughout RivCo Tuesday

Flash flood watches are in effect for some areas.

A strong Pacific storm will bring heavy rain and the potential for flash flooding to Riverside County Tuesday, meteorologists said.

The National Weather Service issued flash flood watches for the Riverside metropolitan area from 9 a.m. Tuesday to late Tuesday night, and a flash flood watch for mountain areas from 9 a.m. Tuesday to 9 a.m. Wednesday. The flash flood watches did not extend into the Coachella Valley, though rain was also expected there Tuesday.

In issuing the watches for metropolitan and mountain areas, the agency said that the greatest threat for flash flooding and debris flow will be on steep coastal mountain slopes, and in and below any recent burn areas.

However, “there is some risk of flash flooding west of the mountains should very intense rainfall develop,” the Weather Service said.

Rainfall totals from the storm will be up to 2.5 inches in metropolitan areas, and 2 to 4 inches in the mountains, according to the NWS.
