LAKE ELSINORE, CA — The county supervisor who represents Lake Elsinore and Wildomar is hoping to garner a third term in Tuesday's election.

Supervisor Kevin Jeffries, who was first elected to the First District in 2012 after terming out in the state assembly, is defending his seat against a sheriff's deputy and a community activist.

Deputy Melissa Bourbonnais is staking positions on traffic congestion relief, solutions to homelessness and public safety in her campaign.

The incumbent is the only supervisor who has consistently declined salary increases out of a publicly avowed deference to county taxpayers, and he has made pension reform to net budgetary savings a chief priority going forward.

As of February 17, there are 217,958 registered voters in District 1, according to data from the California Secretary of State.

Overall, the 1st District includes about 450,000 residents and encompasses the cities of Wildomar, Lake Elsinore, Canyon Lake and most of the City of Riverside.
