Lake Elsinore Emergency Preparedness Event Planned In September

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — The city of Lake Elsinore is hosting an Emergency Preparedness Event from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Lowe's Parking Lot at 29355 Central Avenue in Lake Elsinore.

Organizer Ralph Mesa, Jr., the city's Emergency Services Manager, discussed the upcoming event as a learning opportunity for residents who wish to prepare for disaster on the city's website.

Disaster preparation is every citizen's responsibility.

"Your role in recovery following a disaster is as important as the job for first responders and rescuers," he says. "We want everyone to be ready at all times, whatever the case may be."

It's been since before COVID that the city has held one of these events.

At the event, residents can learn how to prepare for an emergency at the fair from local organizations, businesses, and agencies. There will be interactive demonstrations, as emergency response equipment will be displayed.

Previous attendees have included California Highway Patrol, Border Patrol, Riverside County Animal Services, Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department, Lake Elsinore deputies of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District, the Riverside County Emergency Management Department, the American Red Cross, the Citizen Corps, JustServe.com and others.

They are actively gathering residents to volunteer for the Lake Elsinore Community Emergency Response Team program.

When you go, shop for the latest in emergency supplies and take those simple steps to get started with their emergency preparedness, according to Mesa. You can also sign up for training and emergency response groups at the fair.

"This is an interactive, family-friendly event that includes the latest information, tools, and technologies that residents can use to be prepared for a disaster," he said.

According to Get Ready Lake Elsinore, your basic emergency supply kit should contain:

• Basic first aid kit and a seven-day supply of medication and medical items.
• Maps of the area (paper).
• Extra cash (suggested $200 in small bills).
• Spare car/home keys.
• Spare change of clothes for all.
• Family and emergency contacts (phone and email).
• Pet supplies for seven days.
• Copies of important personal documents in a water-tight bag.
• One gallon of water per person per day, in a five-day supply.
• Battery-powered or hand crank radio (NOAA Weather Radio preferred).
• Cell phone, charger(s), flashlights, extra batteries.
• Sanitation and personal hygiene items and blankets.
• Wrench or plyers.
• Other tools.
