Lake Elsinore's Flour Fusion To Close Its Doors For Good On April 27

"We just don't have the foot traffic on Main Street," said Flour Fusion owner Kris Hertz.

After five and a half years in the city, one of Lake Elsinore’s favorite eateries is closing its doors.

Flour Fusion located at 133 N. Main Street will serve the public for the last time on April 27. After that date, the family operated European-style bistro will close its doors – for good.

“We just don’t have the foot traffic on Main Street,” said Flour Fusion owner Kris Hertz.

She explained that her lunch traffic has been brisk, but her breakfast service just didn’t take off.

“I was never able to capture the morning commuters. We are very sad to go,” she said.

Loyal customers (including this Patch writer) are equally saddened. Flour Fusion is known throughout the city for its home-baked pastries, garden-fresh salads, and gourmet sandwiches.

The eatery has also added a cosmopolitan, upscale vibe to the historic city that will surely be missed. The small, brightly lit restaurant has been a popular gathering spot for artists, city workers and Main Street business owners who come for good food, as well as live music featuring local performers.

Although the restaurant is closing, Hertz -- who lives in Lake Elsinore -- said she plans to carry on with the company’s wholesale business that includes selling gourmet foods to Trader Joe’s. The wholesale component is located next door to the restaurant, but will not be open to the public, she explained.

So will Hertz relocate the Flour Fusion concept to another city and give it a second whirl?

“No, I think this is it,” she said.
