
San Jose Giants 8, Lake Elsinore Storm 5
The Lake Elsinore Storm remained in the bottom of the California League standings, after losing at San Jose on Sunday, 8-5.
The loss put the Storm at 3-4 within the past week. The team is 9-15 on the season, one game behind the High Desert Mavericks.

Lake Elsinore is a high Single-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres. San Jose is a single-A club of the San Francisco Giants.
There were no call-ups, demotions or rehab assignments announced this past week.

On Sunday, San Jose took a 4-1 lead after five innings and led 7-1 after six.
Left-handed pitcher Michael Watt, who was acquired by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2008 as part of the Greg Maddux trade, is still winless on the season at 0-4. He allowed four runs, three earned, in five innings. He struck out four.
The Storm’s Daniel Meeley came off the bench to play right field and he went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in and a double. Storm second baseman Dean Anna went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
Jonathan Galvez hit a solo home run in the top of the third inning, his third on the season.
Storm 7, Giants 5
On Saturday, Lake Elsinore was able to pick up a road win, beating the Giants, 7-5.
Starting pitcher Chris Fetter was knocked around early, allowing five runs in the first three innings – only two earned – in the victory. Pedro Hernandez scattered three hits in two innings of relief to pick up the win.
Fetter allowed three runs in the second, including a two-run triple to San Francisco Giants first-round pick and Diamond Bar High School product Gary Brown.
The Storm took a 5-4 lead by scoring three runs on two hits and two errors in the top of the third. Designated hitter Jedd Gyorko, a 2010 second-round pick by the Padres who as of Sunday is leading the Storm with a .375 batting average, reached on an error to third, which scored two runs. Freiman drove Gyorko home with a single.
Gyorko homered in both the second inning and in the seventh inning, the second of which scored the go-ahead run.
The Giants tied the score at 5-5 on a bunt single in the bottom of the third.
Gyorko hit a two-out home run in the first inning. San Jose tied the game in the bottom of that inning, then Jonathan Galvez also hit a solo homer in the second inning for a 2-1 Storm lead.
Giants 9, Storm 3
In Friday’s 9-3 loss at San Jose, Storm starting pitcher Jose DePaula struggled mightily for the first time all season. He allowed seven earned runs in the first inning, while getting just one out.
DePaula (1-2), who came in with a 0.69 ERA, saw it balloon to 5.21. Relievers Stiven Osuna, Zach Herr, Dustin Pease and Hayden Beard combined to allow two more runs.
Second baseman Jonathan Galvez went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a run batted in. Gyorko went 2-for-5.
Stockton Ports 6, Storm 4
Lake Elsinore went 2-2 in its road series at Stockton, after losing 6-4 on Thursday. Starter Matt Lollis (1-4) allowed three earned runs to take the loss. As of Saturday, he led the California League in losses, but was tied for fourth in strikeouts.
The Storm had the tying run at the plate in the top of the ninth inning, but could not get the run across. After Dean Anna doubled home Edinson Rincon, Wande Olabisi struck out swinging. With two outs, Rico Noel flew out to left field.
Stockton took a 2-0 lead, before Lake Elsinore tied it in the top of the third inning. Olabisi hit his first home run of the season over the center-field fence to lead things off, then Noel reached on a bunt single. He stole second, then on the same play ran to third on a throwing error by the catcher. With Gyorko hitting, Noel scored on a wild pitch for the 2-2 score.
Stockton tacked on one run in both the third and fourth innings for a 4-2 score, then Lake Elsinore cut it in half in the top of the fifth. Noel walked, then he stole second again. Reymond Fuentes singled Noel to third, but Fuentes was later picked off first, which allowed Noel to score.
Storm 8, Ports 4
Wednesday was a better day for Lake Elsinore, in an 8-4 win over the Stockton Ports. Jerry Sullivan (3-1) allowed only two runs on seven hits over six innings. He struck out one and walked none.
Lake Elsinore, after trailing 2-1, exploded for two runs in the top of the fourth inning and three in the fifth to take a 6-2 lead.
Daniel Meeley hit a two-run single that scored Jason Hagerty and Rincon in the fourth.
In the fifth, Gyorko connected on a three-run homer that scored Anna, who was hit by a pitch and Fuentes, who doubled.
Stockton cut the lead to 6-4, after Anthony Aliotti singled Dusty Coleman home in the eighth.
But Lake Elsinore tacked on two more insurance runs in the ninth. Gyorko singled, Hagerty doubled him home. Nathan Freiman drove in Hagerty on a sacrifice fly.
Ports 4, Storm 2
Lake Elsinore lost a close 4-2 game on Tuesday to Stockton. Watt allowed all four runs in 5 1/3 innings, on six hits and two walks. He struck out nine. Watt was a second-round pick of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2007 MLB Draft out of Capistrano Valley High School in Mission Viejo. This is his first season with Lake Elsinore.
Stockton scored one run in the first inning, then got to Watt by scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Michael Choice hit a two-run home run for the go-ahead runs. Leonard Gil hit a two-run double, Rashun Dixon singled, then Dustin Pease relieved Watt. Pease allowed a ground ball that scored Gil.
Lake Elsinore took a 2-1 lead in the fourth, on a home run by Nathan Freiman, his fourth this season. The Storm struck in the second, on an RBI triple by Rincon.
Storm 9, Ports 3
Lake Elsinore began its week with a bang, beating Stockton on Monday, 9-3.
The Storm blew open a 5-3 game by scoring four runs in the top of the ninth. Noel singled with one out, stole second and also stole third. Fuentes reached on an error, which allowed Noel to score. Gyorko struck with a two-run double. Hagerty drove in Gyorko on a sacrifice fly.
In the sixth, Hagerty struck hard by hitting a two-run homer. It gave the Storm the go-ahead run at 4-3. Hernandez earned his first win of the season in relief. He threw two innings, allowed three hits and no runs. Hernandez struck out three and walked one.
Gyorko went 3-for-5, Hagerty went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI.
Fetter started and he allowed three runs and seven hits. He allowed a home run and struck out six, walking none.
