Lake Elsinore, Wildomar Under Freeze Warning From NWS

Temperatures as low as 27 degrees are predicted in the region between midnight and 8 a.m. Friday, according to the NWS.

LAKE ELSINORE-WILDOMAR, CA — While the latest winter storm has passed, sub-freezing temperatures are forecast across western Riverside County Thursday night and into Friday morning, prompting a freeze warning from the National Weather Service that includes Lake Elsinore and Wildomar.

Temperatures as low as 27 degrees are predicted in the region between midnight and 8 a.m. Friday, according to the NWS. The mercury is expected to drop to below freezing overnight in Lake Elsinore and Wildomar.

A freeze warning is issued by the National Weather Service when significant, widespread freezing temperatures are expected.

"Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes, they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing," the NWS advised.

Residents should also take precautions to protect pets.

The Coachella Valley will be under a frost advisory overnight.

"Temperatures as low as 30 degrees will result in frost formation," according to the NWS's desert forecast. "Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold."

The chilly weather is expected to begin warming, reaching daytime highs in the mid-70s by Monday in Lake Elsinore and Wildomar. The NWS shows no rain for the rest of the month.
