Lane Closures Expected On 15 Freeway In Southwest RivCo As Road Work Continues: Caltrans

The $819,000 project is intended to improve roadway safety, help prevent vehicles from leaving the roadway and reduce crashes.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — Motorists traveling the 15 Freeway between Lake Elsinore and Temecula should expect overnight lane closures and possible traffic delays as crews continue a road safety improvement project, the California Department of Transportation said on Friday.

The work involves installing rumble strips and restriping portions of the freeway between Nichols Road in Lake Elsinore and Temecula Parkway in Temecula, according to Caltrans.

Construction is scheduled from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Monday through Friday and may require alternating lane closures on the northbound and southbound 15 Freeway. Weekend and daytime work may also be necessary at times, according to Caltrans.

Crews began work Sept. 21 and installing rumble strips along the freeway last month. The improvements include installing sinusoidal rumble strips along the inside and outside shoulders in both directions, restriping the roadway and completing related safety upgrades, according to Caltrans.

In addition to alternating lane closures, motorists may encounter ramp closures, freeway connector closures and shoulder closures as needed, the agency said.

The freeway connections that could be affected include the northbound 15 Freeway connector to northbound Interstate 215 and the southbound 215 Freeway connector to southbound Interstate 15.

Construction signs have been placed throughout the project area to alert drivers to upcoming work zones. Traffic cones and other control devices will separate construction areas from moving traffic.

Caltrans advises motorists to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and follow posted construction signs. Drivers should also use caution around work vehicles and crews that may enter and exit freeway shoulder areas.

The agency said construction is expected to be completed by winter 2026, although the schedule is subject to weather and material availability.

All work is weather permitting, Caltrans said.
