Nearly one million men and women in uniform have given their life to sustain the unique freedoms of our great nation. From the Revolutionary War to the current conflict in Afghanistan, American service members have had to endure numerous and sometimes dreadful challenges to carry out their mission.
Memorial Day is more than just a day off. Its one day our nation has set aside to reflect upon a sacred celebration of our men and women who have given their lives for these United States.
As a Navy Veteran and a Navy wife, I ask you to join me in recognizing the extraordinary sacrifice these men and women have made over the years for our freedom.
Perhaps the most important thing we can do during this Memorial Day is to vow to never forget the sacrifices of our fallen service members. It is more important than ever to teach our children about the remarkable legacy of service, perseverance and sacrifice that our fallen heroes have left behind. The United States would be unrecognizable today without our service members’ invaluable commitment and selfless service.
On the final Monday of May, I wish you and your family a safe and meaningful Memorial Day.
