Menifee Man, 72, Struck By Car Crossing Street, In Critical Condition

The man was crossing Antelope Road and Chambers Avenue when he was struck Thursday, police say.

MENIFEE, CA — An SUV struck a 72-year-old Menifee man who suffered "life-threatening injuries" on Thursday afternoon.

Just after 4 p.m., the unidentified pedestrian was crossing near the intersection of Antelope Road and Chambers Avenue when he was struck, according to the Menifee Police Department.

The victim was crossing Antelope, where there is no marked crosswalk, when a southbound 2025 Kia Telluride approached at an unconfirmed speed, according to police.

"The driver attempted to avoid striking the pedestrian but was unable to prevent the collision," the department spokesperson said.

The man was knocked unconscious on the roadway, and the motorist, whose identity was not disclosed, immediately stopped while witnesses called 911.

According to the police department, the senior was taken to a regional trauma center for treatment and remained in critical condition on Friday.

The driver, also a Menifee resident, told officers that they tried to avoid striking the pedestrian, but were unable to do so. Officers questioned the motorist and found no indications of intoxication. The party was not arrested, though the investigation was continuing, according to police.
