PERRIS, CA — Metrolink commuter train service along the Perris Valley Line, serving Moreno Valley and Perris, will be suspended Saturday and Sunday to accommodate construction along the tracks.

Trains will be unavailable beginning Saturday morning and remain so until the predawn hours Monday to allow crews to work safely on the Perris- South Metrolink Station & Layover Facility Project, according to the Riverside County Transportation Commission.

"Work will include construction of a new retaining wall, grading for a platform extension, demolition of a segment of the existing platform, track work and required inspections before the track is returned to service," the RCTC said in a statement Wednesday.

During the service interruption, no Riverside Transit Agency buses will be substituted to make up for the loss of train availability, so riders will have to find their own means of transportation, officials noted.

The impacted stations will be Hunter Park-UC Riverside, Moreno Valley- March Field, Downtown Perris and South Perris. The Downtown Riverside Station will not be affected, nor will any other Metrolink stations, according to the RCTC.

The agency has partnered with the Southern California Regional Rail Authority to complete the $40 million project, which got underway in June and is slated for completion sometime in 2028.

Among other things, the project entails constructing a new passenger loading platform in Perris, installing new canopies to shade passengers on hot and foul weather days, installing 1,000 feet of new track between Moreno Valley and Perris and adding a fourth track to serve a "layover maintenance facility," officials said.
