Motorcyclist Dies Following Homeland Crash

HOMELAND, CA — A motorcyclist who was seriously injured Monday in a collision with a minivan on the south end of Homeland has died.

Samuel Martinez, 28, of Homeland, was pronounced dead at Riverside University Health Systems Medical Center about an hour after the crash.

The collision was reported at 4:22 p.m. Monday in the 31500 block of McWade Ave., near Ritter Avenue, about a quarter mile south of Highway 74, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The agency said the Dodge van and motorcycle impacted, hurling the rider into the middle of the roadway.

The van driver, who wasn't hurt and not identified, did not flee.

Riverside County Fire Department paramedics reached the location within a few minutes and found the rider, whose identity was not disclosed, in cardiac arrest. Personnel initiated resuscitative measures, reviving the man, according to reports from the scene.

He was taken to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley in critical condition.

The CHP said a handgun was found in the road, apparently belonging to the victim. Officers took possession of it.

The van driver was detained for questioning as the investigation got underway Monday afternoon.
