Nassar Chosen Pac-12 Volleyball Freshman Of The Week

Temescal Canyon graduate Arica Nassar led her Oregon State team to a key victory over highly-ranked Long Beach State last week.

Former Temescal Canyon High athlete Arica Nassar has been named the Bank of the West Pac-12 Freshman of the Week for the week of September 5-11, announced Monday by Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott.

Nassar, a 6-1 middle blocker, hit .402 to lead Oregon State  in efficiency over the four-match week. On Monday against Seattle, Nassar hit an career-high errorless .750 with 15 kills, good to tie for second-best all-time in school history in a single match, before resetting her best with 16 kills in the team’s upset of No. 22 Long Beach State.

Her 57 kills on the week ranked second-best on the team, while her 22 blocks, including a career-high 11 against Southern Methodist University on Friday, paced the Beavers’ defense at the net.

Overall on the week, she averaged 3.56 kills per set and 4.66 points per set, adding three service aces. Nassar was named to the Long Beach State Baden Classic All-Tournament Team after narrowly missing the Active Ankle Challenge All-Tournament Team.

Long Beach State is the highest ranked non-conference opponent that the Beavers have defeated on the road since No. 6 Michigan in 2009. The Beavers are currently 2-0 on the road and are riding a six-match winning streak into conference play.
