LAKE ELSINORE, CA — Part of northbound Interstate 15 will be shut down Friday night in Lake Elsinore for construction, and motorists were advised to prepare ahead of time to avoid travel delays.

According to the Riverside County Transportation Commission, two northbound lanes on I-15 will be closed at Railroad Canyon Road while crews pour concrete for new overpass segments as part of the $41 million Railroad Canyon Road Interchange Project.

The lane closures are scheduled between 9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday, the RCTC said.

Officials noted that the No. 1 lane will remain open through the construction zone, but it will likely be slow going.

Alternating lane closures are also planned on east- and westbound Railroad Canyon as part of the overnight work, officials said.

The interchange project got underway in May 2020 and is expected to conclude at the end of this year.

Crews are adding a new lane on both sides of Railroad Canyon at I-15, as well as constructing auxiliary lanes on the freeway at the location to ease congestion.
