Official: Freeway Work on the 91 Means Weekend Travel Delays

A heads up if your drive will take you through Riverside this weekend.

Lanes on both sides of the Riverside (91) Freeway will be shut down this weekend in Corona to facilitate work on the Main Street undercrossing, according to the Riverside County Transportation Commission.

Shortly before midnight Friday, crews will close lanes on the east- and westbound 91 while sections of Main Street below the freeway are demolished. The lane closures are scheduled to remain in effect until 9 a.m. Sunday.

“With Thanksgiving just around the corner, this weekend gives us an opportunity to complete a lot of work while minimizing the inconvenience to a much shorter time period,” Corona Mayor Karen Spiegel said. “Safety is our first priority, so I urge everyone to plan ahead and be informed, so we can work together to ensure a successful project.”

Main Street will be closed at the 91 all weekend.

In addition to the other closures, the northbound Interstate 15 connector to the 91 will be completely shut down between 10 p.m. Friday and 6:30 a.m. Saturday.

Detours will be in effect, but officials recommended that motorists consider alternate routes to avoid travel delays.

The work is part of the ongoing 91 Project Fast Forward, which entails widening the freeway between the Orange County line and the Interstate 15/91 interchange. The $1.3 billion project is expected to wrap up in the latter half of 2017.
