
More than seven decades ago Americans suffered one of the worst attacks in our nation’s history. On December 7, 1941, in the span of just a few hours, thousands of American servicemen and women became the first casualties of one of the bloodiest conflicts in the history of the world – World War II.

Seventy-two years later, Pearl Harbor is remembered across America as a day of honor and bravery. Instead of destroying a nation, millions of Americans answered the call to fight in Europe and the Pacific, while millions more contributed to the war effort back home.

On this important day, we honor the survivors of Pearl Harbor, and all of our brave World War II veterans. The service and gallantry they displayed during that trying time in our nation’s history is something that should never be forgotten.
As Californians come together this weekend to remember those lost so many decades ago, I hope you, too, will give thanks to our heroic veterans and their legacy of service.
