RIVERSIDE, CA — A pedestrian who was struck and killed by at least one motorist on state Route 91 in Riverside last week was identified over the weekend as a 26-year-old Riverside woman.

Yolanda Rodriguez died at the crash scene at approximately 9:30 p.m. Friday on the eastbound side of the freeway, just east of Adams Street.

A witness reported seeing a pedestrian down in a middle lane and a dark-colored SUV stopped on the right shoulder, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The SUV driver told authorities the vehicle hit the pedestrian after the person was already down, the CHP said. Officers checked the area for a vehicle with damage consistent with hitting a person and did not find one.

It's unclear why Rodriguez was on the freeway.
