Police: Infant Boy Drowns in Perris Pool, Death Investigation Launched

PERRIS, CA - Sheriff's officials are investigating the death of a baby boy who was found submerged in a pool in Perris, according to a sergeant.
The fatality occurred Thursday in the 500 block of D Street, near Perris Boulevard, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.
Sgt. Curt Harris said that the baby boy's relatives found him submerged shortly before noon and pulled him out of the water.

"Deputies quickly located the baby and immediately began life-saving efforts by administering CPR and First Aid," Harris said in a news release. "Within minutes, paramedics from the California Department of Forestry and American Medical Response arrived on-scene and continued CPR before transporting the baby to the hospital."
An ambulance crew took over resuscitation efforts and transported the infant, whose identity has not been released, to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley, where the child was pronounced dead, according to Harris.

Now, police are trying to determine what may have led to the incident.
"As a result of the incident, an investigation was initiated in an attempt to identify the components that led to the baby’s death," Harris said. "The baby’s mother and several of her family members were interviewed by Sheriff’s Investigators, but no arrests were made at the time."
Harris said the investigation is ongoing.
