Power Outage Hits 1,550 Canyon Lake Homes
Canyon Lake air conditioners ground to a halt at 1:30 p.m. on a 95-degree Thursday afternoon.
CANYON LAKE, CA — More than 1,550 Canyon Lake homes lost power for several hours Thursday afternoon amid near-tiple digit temperatures.
According to Southern California Edison, repair crews were on the way to turn restore the power Thursday afternoon. Edison estimated power would be back on by 4:30 p.m. at most residences, a spokesperson said, 247 homes were still dark as of 5:45 p.m. according to a spokesman for the power company.
"There were 1,565 customers initially impacted by the outage," they told Patch in a texted message.

The areas affected were:
- To the north: Schooner Drive.
- To the east: Point Marina Drive.
- To the south: The Lake.
- To the west: Happy Hunter Drive.
Crews worked as safety allowed to restore power to the remaining customers, and by 8:30 a.m. no additional outages were reported.

Residents first reported the electrical outage at 1:30 p.m.
Investigators headed to the area of Swan Point Drive and Fairweather Drive where the outage is thought to have originated, according to SCE's Outage map.
Temperatures in Canyon Lake were hovering around 95 degrees during the outage. The cause of the loss of power was still being investigated as of Friday morning.
