'Power Shut Off' Warning In SWR, Thousands Of Homes Could Be Affected

Wildomar, Lake Elsinore and Murrieta may be affected until midday Saturday. Is your residence in the Public Safety Power Shutoff area?

WILDOMAR, CA—Southern California Edison may implement emergency public safety power shutoffs into Saturday, the agency announced. As of 2:45 p.m., 1,150 homes and businesses had lost power due to increased fire risk amid the growing Santa Ana winds.

Of SoCal Edison's 5 million California customers, another 28,944 customers across Riverside County and 48,964 more in San Bernardino County were threatened by a PSPS.

An increased risk of fire conditions from Friday through noon Saturday led to the warnings, which were extended by Lake Elsinore, Wildomar, and Murrieta during this National Weather Service High Wind warning.

The City of Wildomar shared the warning with its residents over social media, adding that parts of Wildomar, Lake Elsinore, and Murrieta may be affected until the high winds lessen.

Without power running through the lines, there is a lessened risk of wildfire ignition, according to SoCal Edison.
