Riverside County Board of Supervisors at their May 23, 2017, 9AM, Board Meeting.
Major opponents to the proposed General Plan Amendment and Zone Change
(“GPA1196”), include No2rezoning.org, RAGLM.org, GLMTRA.org, RAMV.org and
represent over 100,000 residents of this mostly rural area extending from the I-215
Freeway to I-15 Freeway and who are adamantly opposed to the proposed dramatic
changes to the General Plan and rezoning that threaten their existing rural
communities. Over 1000 residents have signed petitions against GPA 1196 that
proposes rezoning 239 acres of rural land long zoned one acre to high-density urban
zoning near and adjacent to Citrus Hill High School. The proposed project would allow 5
homes per acre and no animal keeping setting a dangerous precedent for further
rezoning of the entire Greater Lake Mathews / Mead Valley area.
Residents are very concerned about protecting the rural lifestyle of the area from
developers and land speculators who want to build high-density urban housing
throughout their quite rural communities. The Greater Lake Mathews / Mead Valley area
has vast expanses of open space, some protected and other unprotected, containing
endangered and protected animals and plant life that must be protected from habitat
destruction and elimination. The proposed project is part of a wildlife corridor, protected
arroyos, Native American cultural resources and blue line streams.
GPA 1196 will add thousands of additional vehicles trips to Van Buren, Cajalco, Wood,
El Sobrante and Markham streets increasing traffic on these roads that are already
gridlocked during rush hour. Traffic on Wood and Markham streets in front of Citrus Hill
High School is especially dangerous already. Adding thousands of vehicle trips per day
will only increase those dangers dramatically.
100 residents are signed up to attend the May 13th protest rally. In addition, many
residents will be bringing their children, horses, ponies, dogs, goats and livestock to the
rally. For more information contact John L. Minnella 951-574- 5911.
