RivCo Brush Fire Scorches 55 Acres, Evacuation Orders Issued: Cal Fire

SAGE, CA — A brush fire that erupted Friday in Sage burned almost 55 acres in a lightly-populated area, prompting evacuation orders for nearby residents as fire crews continued battling the blaze as of 7 p.m. Friday afternoon.

The blaze, dubbed the Taffle fire was reported at 12:40 p.m. near Taffle Ranch and Red Mountain roads, about six miles southeast of Hemet, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

Multiple engines and hand crews responded to the blaze and encountered a vegetation fire spreading at a "dangerous" rate. Air resources were also called in to battle the brush fire, the agency said.

Firefighters were working to keep the flames south of Red Mountain and east of Oak Drive, where only a few scattered residential properties were in the path of the fire.
