RivCo U.S. Service Academy Nominees Named: 41st District

These RivCo students receive Rep. Calvert's app approval to study at the Air Force Academy, Naval Academy, West Point, and Merchant Marines.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — This week, Rep. Ken Calvert announced his nominations for the U.S. Service Academies from the 41st Congressional District.

As a Member of Congress, Rep. Calvert has the privilege of nominating a select group of highly qualified young men and women from the 41st District for an appointment to one or more U.S. Service Academies—Air Force, Naval, Military, and Merchant Marine.

"I am proud to nominate these outstanding young men and women from the 41st Congressional District for a potential appointment to attend one of our extraordinary U.S. Service Academies," Calvert said. "Answering the call to serve our nation is a truly honorable act. These students are extraordinary representatives of our region and, if accepted, will undoubtedly excel at our Service Academies."

Calvert's Academy Nominations Selection Committee recently evaluated each candidate seeking a nomination to the Service Academies.

The Service Academies will now evaluate the nominees based on their academic, athletic, and physical qualifications and extend an appointment to the best-qualified students that Rep. Calvert has nominated.

The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2024 has significantly changed, increasing the number of nominations submitted per vacancy to 15, up from 10. This change will allow more deserving candidates to be considered for the U.S. Service Academies.

A total of 35 candidates were selected to receive Congressman Calvert's nomination. They are as follows:

Air Force Academy:

Each candidate lives within the 41st District, which stretches across Riverside County, including the cities of Corona, Norco, Lake Elsinore, Wildomar, Canyon Lake, Menifee, Calimesa, Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, La Quinta, Indian Wells, and portions of Eastvale and Riverside. The district also includes the unincorporated areas of El Sobrante, Woodcrest, Temescal Valley, Lakeview, Nuevo, Homeland, Winchester, Cherry Valley, Anza, Pine Cove and Idyllwild.

To be nominated, each candidate must first complete the criteria and seek nomination from their local government official. According to West Point's admissions site, Members of Congress may nominate applicants who meet the eligibility requirements established by law.

Applicants may apply for and receive nominations from their United States senators and representatives, as well as the Vice President of the United States, who can nominate applicants from the country at large and U.S. citizens living abroad.
