Riverside Firefighters Stop Vegetation Fire

RIVERSIDE, CA — Riverside firefighters Saturday battled a two-acre vegetation fire in an arroyo between a commercial area and a neighborhood.

The fire was reported about 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the 8700 block of Trautwein Road, near Van Buren Boulevard, Riverside Fire Department Division Chief Chuck Tasker told City News Service.

A third-alarm response was called, with about 45 firefighters on the scene, Tasker said.

"Several structures were threatened, but firefighters were able to knock the fire down with no reported extension or damage to the adjacent structures," he said. "There were no reports of injuries to firefighters or civilians."

After stopping the fire's forward progress, firefighters remained at the scene until about 9:30 p.m. putting out hot spots, Tasker said. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
