SigAlert: Pileup Jams 91 Freeway In Riverside

The westbound lanes of the Artesia (91) Freeway in Riverside were backed up for miles late Sunday morning.

RIVERSIDE, CA — A six-vehicle pileup backed up the Artesua (91) Freeway for miles Sunday morning in Riverside.

The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert for the westbound side of the freeway near Tyler Street in Riverside at about 11 a.m. Traffic remained backed up to Van Buren Boulevard as of 12:15 p.m. Sunday.

According to the CHP, the initial crash involved a Dodge Challenger and white BMW in the carpool lane, but the crash caused a chain reaction and several other vehicles then slammed into the crash.

The crash shutdown the the carpool and left lanes for at least an hour Sunday.

It was not immediately clear if anyone was injured.
