Attempted Carjacking Suspect Arrested In Lake Elsinore

The 33-year-old man is being held on suspicion of committing an attempted carjacking in Wildomar.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — A Lake Elsinore man was arrested Monday in connection with an attempted carjacking in Wildomar, the Riverside Sheriff's Department announced Tuesday.

David Salcida, 33, was apprehended after a short pursuit that ended near 29000 Rawlings Way in Lake Elsinore, according to Cpl. Evan Bechtold.

Salcida is being held at the Southwest Detention Center on $1,000,000 bail. He faces a felony charge of attempted carjacking and misdemeanor battery, according to jail records.

The attempted carjacking occurred more than a week ago, according to investigators. Salcida got inside an occupied car in the 23000 block of Catt Road and assaulted the driver on the night of April 22, sheriff's officials allege.

He gained control of the car and attempted to drive away when a bystander intervened, according to Bechtold.

"A witness heard the victim yelling for help and approached the suspect resulting in a second assault," Bechtold said.

According to Bechtold, the victim and witness —both Wildomar residents—declined medical treatment for their minor injuries.

The suspect, later identified as Salcida, fled before deputies arrived, according to the sheriff's department.
