Suspected Drunk Driver Crashes Into Area Apartment Complex

The 41-year-old motorist from Temecula was arrested after crews removed her from the car. Building occupants were displaced in Murrieta.

MURRIETA, CA — A Temecula woman was arrested Tuesday night for suspicion of driving under the influence after reportedly plowing into a Murrieta apartment complex and creating havoc for the building's residents, according to police.

The Murrieta Police Department was called at 8:49 p.m. to the report of a vehicle that crashed into the housing unit near Murrieta Hot Springs Road and Calle Del Lago.

Responding officers, along with crews from Murrieta Fire and Rescue, found the woman trapped inside her white, four-door vehicle that was three feet off the ground and wedged into the corner of the building, police said.

The driver, Nichole Winters, 41 of Temecula, was extricated from the sedan and determined by officers to be under the influence of alcohol, the agency said. Winters was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries and booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta for suspicion of driving under the influence.

Damage to the apartment required the electricity and gas to be turned off for the night, and for their safety, the complex occupants vacated the building until an inspector could confirm it was safe for them to return, police said.
