Temescal Canyon Softball Player Earns College Scholarship

Senior Amber Alvarez will play softball next year at Doane College in Nebraska.

Flanked by her parents and her new college softball coaches, Temescal Canyon senior Amber Alvarez signed a letter of intent to play at Doane College in Nebraska.

She will the college on a softball and athletic scholarship.

According to Doane head coach Barry Mosley, Amber brings new talent to the team's outfield because of her skills and speed.

Amber is the second TCHS student athlete to be recruited by Doane. Gina Falciani, another Temescal Canyon girl’s softball standout, was recruited two years ago.

Not only is Alvarez the Titans leadoff hitter, she is a team leader, Titans softball coach Bruce Atherton said.

She turned herself into a left-handed slapper and plays center field, taking advantage of her tremendous speed, Atherton said. Alvarez hit .305 as a junior and her coach credits her with the team's quick start this season.

“Amber’s one of the reasons we’re doing really good this season,” Atherton said. “If she gets on, she’ll normally score because of her speed.”
