Time in The District During the Legislature's Summer Recess

It has been an exciting month being able to spend time in the District during the Legislature’s summer recess which began after the 4th of July.  My Open House was a perfect way to kick-off the break and many more wonderful opportunities to interact with constituents have followed.

One of the highlights of summer recess was being able to attend the Murrieta Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards Banquet.   In keeping with the “USO” theme for the event, I had the distinct pleasure of honoring five World War II Veterans, presenting them with Assembly certificates of recognition outlining their years of distinguished service to our country (see attached picture).  I also enjoyed recognizing the Chamber’s award-winners, thanking them for their service to the people and businesses of Murrieta and the surrounding communities.

Another highlight was participating on a 3-woman panel for the Women’s Council of Realtors (WCR) Convention.  The “Women in Leadership Empowering Others” panel discussed productivity, volunteerism, mentoring and balancing professional and personal lives.  I learned a great deal from the two other esteemed panelists who were Bobbie Nelsen, the 2012 National President of WCR, and Stephanie McCormick, CEO of Make a Wish Foundation of Orange County/Inland Empire.  It was a rousing group of women (and a few gentlemen) which made for an interesting and enjoyable afternoon.

I could go on and on about all the great meetings and events I enjoyed this month, but suffice it to say, it’s always nice to be back in the District with family, friends and the wonderful constituents of the 67th Assembly District.
