TRAFFIC ALERT: Corona Artery to be Partially Closed for Freeway Work
The Main Street corridor at the 91 will be reduced from six to four lanes.

The city of Corona’s main north-south artery will be re- configured beginning Tuesday, with limited access to the Riverside (91) Freeway, so motorists should be prepared for delays.
The Main Street corridor at the 91 will be reduced from six to four lanes, and the eastbound ramp to the freeway will be shut down to facilitate work on the 91 Fast Forward Project, which entails adding two lanes to both sides of the 91 between the Orange County line and Interstate 15.
Riverside County Transportation Commission officials are referring to the re-configuration and its inevitable disruptions as the “Main Street Squeeze.” They noted that Main Street’s altered condition will not change until the end of 2016.

“We know that lane closures and ramp closures are inconvenient for motorists,” RCTC Director Anne Mayer said. “We ask for the public’s understanding, though, because we have to balance this traffic squeeze with the need for a safe working environment for our crews. By moving traffic away from our construction crews, we can create a safer workplace.”
Mayer said the westbound freeway onramp at Main Street will also have to be completely shut down in the summer or fall and remain closed for 10 to 12 months.

The freeway widening project calls for rebuilding the overpass at Main Street, improving sidewalks and constructing new retaining walls.
Corona police Capt. Jerry Rodriguez asked motorists using the corridor to remember to slow down in the construction zone, watch out for workers and take alternate routes, such as Lincoln and Magnolia avenues, if they’re in a rush.
