Truck Launches From Cajalco Road, Trapping Driver Inside: CHP

A pickup truck tumbled 100 feet below the winding road, where a good Samaritan and emergency responders attempted to free those inside.

CORONA, CA — A white pickup truck tumbled off the roadway on the westbound Cajalco Road on Monday, leaving at least one person trapped inside, officials say.

Just before 2:30 p.m., emergency responders arrived at the 10300 Block of Cajalco Road, where the Dodge Ram truck slid off the roadway about 100 feet below, according to California Highway Patrol dispatch operators.

A good Samaritan parked on the right-hand side of the roadway and attempted to free the person trapped inside the truck but was unable to do so, CHP said.

Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire firefighters were able to forcibly extract the patient and took them to a nearby hospital for treatment, according to spokesperson Maggie Cline De La Rosa.

The patient's status was not immediately known.

CHP noted that a heavy-duty tow truck had been called to the scene to assist in retrieving the downed vehicle. No other information was immediately available.
