Twin Babies Injured In Lake Elsinore Fire

The twins were transported to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Cheri Patterson.

A fire that destroyed a double-wide trailer near the Lake Elsinore line caused smoke inhalation in 8-month-old twin girls and displaced a family of five.

The fire was reported at approximately 4 p.m. at 21451 Suzan Street at the Lake Elsinore boundary line, just east of the 15 Freeway.

The displaced family of five included the babies, two women and their mother.

Shelton-Hinojosa said the family has no insurance and has been renting the trailer, which she explained is owned by a Canyon Lake resident. She said she was in the process of purchasing a home, and all her new furniture was in the trailer.

Two female dogs -- a 6-year-old Golden Retriever and a 9-year-old Terrier -- were also rescued from the fire, according to Shelton-Hinojosa.

Power lines are down in the area and Southern California Edison is responding.

Nineteen firefighters have been battling the blaze.

Onlookers and motorists in the area are urged to use caution.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
