Why all the arguing? Can't we just talk?

Let me share another point of view around the Wednesday night planning commission meeting in Wildomar.

I am going to keep it simple.  I don't claim to be "an expert", nor am I saying others are lying when they offer a different point of view.

You see how often the Supreme Court gets a unanimous decision? And they are all experts!

Here goes: This is a land use designation not a project that is being voted on. They(land use designations) can be changed at a later date if the owner has a project and goes thru the process.

We need a certain amount of housing elements to allow the city to qualify for funding and grants. And it requires land owners to agree to it. This has taken over a year and has not been done in secret! The housing element is to allow us to qualify for funding and grants...some wonder if that isn't the purpose of those fighting this- to prevent Wildomar from getting grants or funding thereby setting up Wildomar's financial downfall.

They are called Land use overlays. I suggest you google it- that will help you understand it better than me droning on.

My understanding is that the landowner does not have any current plans for this parcel. If he changes his mind or sells the property any plan still has to be approved.

Those opposed to this have expressed some valid concerns but I think they are quite a bit overstated and a little bit like the boy who cried wolf. So far EVERY project presented to the city gets criticized(and usually a lawsuit filed or threatened) by the same group of people.  So it is hard to tell when the wolf is really there.

I would just like to present some questions we all need to think about: Where else would we designate this? If it took a year to get this done how long to get some other property owner to agree? Do people want us to not be able to get grants and funding? Are we ready to say we don't need affordable places (apartments) for people to live in? I have no horse in this race(meaning I have not made up my mind and I do not benefit no matter the decision) other than wanting Wildomar to reach it's full potential.

Every concerned citizen should reach out to those on the planning commission with their questions.  My hope and assumption is that any one of them can offer you more information than what I have given you.

Then make up your mind and let them know what YOU want!
