• Demolition On Old Regal Starts As Plans For New Costco Take Shape In Lake Forest (patch.com) — Demolition of the old Regal theater in Foothill Ranch is underway as Lake Forest clears space for its first Costco, a 165,000-square-foot store expected to boost local tax revenue. The new warehouse will include a tire center, food court, outdoor seasonal sales, and surface parking, though city officials haven't yet shared an opening date.
   

• Rare bird draws flocks of Southern California birders to this Irvine marsh to get a glimpse (latimes.com subscription) — A Lake Forest-raised birder is among hundreds flocking to Irvine's San Joaquin Marsh to see a rare juvenile purple gallinule, the first ever documented in Orange County. The 320-acre wetland, just a short drive from Lake Forest, has become a regional hotspot as birders crowd trails and overflow parking to glimpse and photograph the colorful wanderer.
