1 Shot In Helix High School Parking Lot: LMPD

Police are looking for a suspect who shot a man at the parking lot of Helix High School Monday evening.

LA MESA-MT. HELIX, CA — A man was shot in his upper leg in the parking lot of Helix Charter High School in La Mesa Memorial Day evening, La Mesa police told NBC7 News.

Residents told police they heard gunshots at around 6:20 p.m. Monday near Helix High School, at 7323 University Avenue.

A man told responding officers that he had been shot. Officers administered first aid, and the man was transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital, La Mesa Police Department Sgt. Snyder told NBC News.

There was no school Monday due to Memorial Day, and the motive for the shooting is unknown, police said.

Police said the shooter was seen driving away in a mid-2000s tan or gold Toyota Camry-type car. The shooter is described as a tall man in his early 20s wearing a white tank top with tattoos on his arm.
