• New Lakeside Farmers Market Opens Sept. 10 (santeepulse.com) — East County residents, including those in La Mesa, are getting another nearby option for fresh produce and local goods when the Lakeside Farmers Market opens Sept. 10. Running Thursdays from 3 to 7 p.m., it will feature farm-fresh foods, handmade items, live music, and a beer and wine garden, expanding the growing network of community food events around Santee, Lakeside, and La Mesa.
   

• California could be first to bar ICE agents from other government jobs (spokesman.com) — A La Mesa–based assemblymember is helping drive new California limits on immigration enforcement tools, including a proposed three-year statewide ban on controversial electric-shock gloves. Lawmakers also passed bills that could bar former ICE agents from many public jobs and stop local officers from moonlighting for federal immigration agencies, with all measures now awaiting Gov. Newsom's decision.
