1. Transit Based Affordable Housing Breaks Ground in La Mesa (countynewscenter.com) — La Mesa is getting 147 new affordable homes at the Spring View Apartments, now under construction right next to the San Diego Trolley line on surplus MTS land. A public‑private partnership led by Affirmed Housing and backed by County funding and housing vouchers will create transit‑connected studios to three‑bedrooms for low‑income residents, veterans, and families, with community spaces and sustainable building features.
   

2. Third Suspect Arrested in East County Assault Case (santeepulse.com) — La Mesa residents should know that a third suspect in a February assault case was arrested in town after a months-long sheriff's investigation. The case centers on a violent attack in Lemon Grove that injured three people, and all three named suspects are now in custody as the case moves forward through the county's criminal justice system.
   

3. Friday DUI Checkpoints Set for La Mesa, Escondido (santeepulse.com) — Drivers in La Mesa should expect a DUI checkpoint Friday from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. at 4900 Spring Street, with police watching for impairment from alcohol, cannabis, and medications. Escondido will run a separate checkpoint, and Santee‑area drivers heading west through La Mesa are urged to allow extra time, plan sober rides, and set pickup plans before going out.
   

4. It's official: Coronado is the newest addition to San Diego Community Power – San Diego Union-Tribune (sandiegouniontribune.com) — La Mesa residents are already part of San Diego Community Power, the regional program that buys electricity for several local cities instead of SDG&E. With Coronado now joining, the agency is growing but says existing customers, including those in La Mesa, shouldn't see negative impacts and can still choose among different renewable-energy plans or opt out to stay solely with SDG&E.
