A Letter to PBID Chair, Parking Commissioner & Village Business Owner Lynn McRea

I felt you were hounding the Merchants Association, but over the course of our two-hour conversation, you made it pretty clear that you really just want to help the LMVMA with its accounting.

Dear Lynn,

Thank you for coming to my office yesterday. Because of the prickly nature of our relationship over the last couple of years, I have to say I was not looking forward to our appointment.

Though our meeting was initially stiff, it slowly became cordial, then finally warm and productive. I thank you, and your husband David, for your politeness and for taking the initiative in what turned out to be a great, clearing-the-air talk.

We both want La Mesa and particularly La Mesa Village to flourish and prosper and though we have different approaches to this goal, maybe not as different as they appear.

I felt you were hounding the La Mesa Village Merchants Association, but over the course of our two-hour conversation yesterday, you made it pretty clear that you really just want to help the LMVMA with its accounting.

With today's minefield of new tax rules and regulations, I believe your CPA credentials and non-profit experience could be helpful to the Merchants Association, and as a board member of the Merchants Association, I will do my best to open the lines of communication between you and the rest of the board.

LMVMA President Arlene Moore has confirmed with me that she is looking forward to all of us working things out in a positive manner.

I am also looking forward to hearing accurate information with regard to the proposed PBID and its true costs and benefits to individual merchants and to improved communications at the monthly La Mesa Parking Commission meetings.

There is so much we should be doing, in our advisory capacity, to improve La Mesa Village with parking meter funds; I hope we find common ground in future meetings.

Thank you and see you on the boulevard.

Laura Lothian
