La Mesa Girl Scouts Supports TERI, Inc., Provides Service From the Heart

Girl Scout Troop 6747 makes dreams come true for a young lady who is developmentally disabled and has stage 4 breast cancer at a Red Hat Tea party on August 14, 2012.

La Mesa Girl Scout Troop 6747 GIVES BACK!

The 13 Junior Girl Scouts of Troop 6747 raised $4,000.00 from cookie sales this year! No small feat since the troop receives 80 cents for every box sold.  The girls really worked hard to raise money for troop activities/materials, but wanted to give back to two charities aka non-profit organizations while also providing community service.

The girls were tasked with researching and presenting a speech on their favorite charity to the troop.  The girls then were able to vote on which non-profit that they would like to support with their hard earned cookie money. Cali Cheeseman presented TERI, Inc, a non-profit organization, supporting people with autism and other developmental disabilities for the last 32 years and the troop chose TERI, Inc. as one of their charities.

On Tuesday, August 14, 2012 across generations, from young girl scouts to older ladies enjoying the camaraderie of a red hat club, disability or not, 1 in 8 US women will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of a lifetime; demonstrating that enjoying special moments throughout life and before the end of life is what life is truly about; giving back to others/doing good deeds; making dreams come true and inspiring positive change in the world and especially how the world sees people with autism and other developmental disabilities!

Charlene became an honorary member of troop 6747! She was a girl scout when she was a young girl and this meant the world to her now that she is battling stage 4 breast cancer!  Troop 6747 made a donation to TERI’s Campus of Life in honor of Charlene.  The Charlene fund will remain open for donations so that she will be able to leave her name and legacy at the Campus of Life!
