Thank You, Capt. Carlos Medero!
La Mesa Police Department took the time to honor one of our heroes. The whole department—all the men and women serving our La Mesa community are our heroes.
Wednesday, December 28, at 3:30 pm I stood amongst a large crowd to witness Captain Carlos Medero retire as a La Mesa police officer, become a citizen once again, and hand in his official equipment for the last time.
The ceremony was both tearful and joyful, as a bell rang out 30 times to symbolize his years of service, a well prepared presentation of his career achievements, and the reminders that we celebrate his survival.
I had the pleasure to work with Captain Medero through the annual events in the village, including some counterfeit bill trouble at my store. He was very supportive and a great source of preventative measures.

At the end of the retirement ceremony, I moved across the parking lot for a better vantage point to see the procession that took Carlos away from the police station, and the sight of two PD motorcycles in front and a cruiser in the rear brought it home to me again that 'Thank God' we are celebrating a retirement.
I know there will be those who are concerned with the looming pensions that need to be addressed, but I stood there as proud as ever that our La Mesa Police Department took the time to honor one of our heros. The whole department — all the men and women serving our La Mesa community are our heros.
