Wake up America!

When a duopoly is really a monopoly, we, the people lose.

We Americans are a quixotically fearful lot. We clamor for change, but when real change is offered the fear-factor sends us back to that comfortable couch where status quo awaits us with open arms. We carp about taxes, the rising cost of living, loss of jobs, the number of bankruptcies and home foreclosures, the influence of money in politics ... yet here we are, sitting at a fork in the road, twiddling our thumbs in angst ... as we argue over which fork will lead us to the least perilous socioeconomic cliff.

The feelings of angst and anger that seem to permeate our every environ are almost palpable. It’s not something you can touch or see, but you know it’s there; an omnipresent weight upon the psyche of a nation; draining our strength and throwing us into a whirlwind of confusion.

The good news: We can do it; yes, we, the people can grab our bootstraps and pull ourselves up from the depths of despair.

The bad news: I won’t happen overnight. It will take years to undue the worst facets of a system that has taken decades to create. It will require a great deal of patience and an undying commitment. But it can be done.
