Cali Comfort Helps Raise More Than $1,000 for La Mesa Little League
Proceeds from food sales at the restaurant went to help the La Mesa Little League.
Diners at in Spring Valley did more than fill their bellies this weekend, they helped out La Mesa Little League players at the same time.
Shawn P. Walchef, co-owner of the restaurant at 8910 Troy St., handed over a check totally $1,107.63 to the board of directors of La Mesa Little League Wednesday night. The check amounts to 50-percent proceeds from fan meals last Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
"We had an amazing weekend," Walchef said. "And there will be more zeros where that came from" because he plans to donate more, he said.
Walchef announced that every Saturday on which the Little League plays throughout the season, his restaurant will donate 20 percent of the gross food receipts for breakfast, lunch and dinner of customers who identify themselves to servers as La Mesa Little League supporters.
Walchef and his business partner and co-owner Corey Robinson have in past years donated proceeds to The Spring Valley Little League and Pop Warner football, and offered to also help out La Mesa this year.
Explaining why they chose to donate to Little League Walchef said, "Growing up we (he and his partner) played sports, and we learned about teamwork, hard work and discipline from our coaches.
Now he says it's payback time.
