- The Urban Corps of San Diego County, representatives from La Mesa and Tree San Diego hosted a community tree planting event at Aztec Park in La Mesa. The free event gave residents an opportunity to plant and learn about proper care and maintenance of trees while helping to build an urban forest. (La Mesa-Mount Helix Patch)
- Around 6.3 million rental households nationwide could face eviction in the near future, despite the availability of extensive government funding for rental assistance. More than 1 out of every 10 San Diego County rental households were in arrears as of early August, according to a new county-by-county analysis by Surgo Ventures, a nonprofit organization that uses data to analyze health and social problems in communities. An estimated 71,843 (13.7 percent) rental households are in danger of eviction. (La Mesa-Mount Helix Patch)
- New maps released of earthquake-prone areas are intended to ensure new construction in San Diego does not take place atop earthquake faults that may break the surface. Developed by the California Geological Survey, these regulatory Alquist-Priolo Earthquake Fault Zone maps detail where local governments must require site-specific geologic and engineering studies for proposed developments to ensure this hazard is identified and avoided.
