Water-Main Break Floods Spring Valley Street

A water-main break caused street flooding and temporarily left 20 homes without water service in a neighborhood near Sweetwater Reservoir.

SPRING VALLEY, CA — A water-main break caused minor street flooding and temporarily left 20 homes without water service Wednesday morning in a neighborhood near Sweetwater Reservoir.

The ruptured 6-inch pipeline began inundating the roadway in the 600 block of Maria Avenue in Spring Valley at about 6 a.m., according to the Otay Water District.

Utility crews had the overflow under control within about 90 minutes, said Tenille Otero, a spokeswoman for the agency.

Authorities closed down the road between Jamacha Boulevard and San Francisco Street while repairs were underway, according to the California Highway Patrol. Traffic lanes in the area were open to the public again as of 9:30 a.m., the county Department of Public Works reported.

Two water trucks were sent in to serve the neighborhood pending restoration of water service, which was complete as of shortly after noon, Otero said.
