Nightly Curfew Extended Until Next Week In La Mesa After Riots

As protests and civil unrest continue in San Diego County, the city of La Mesa extended a citywide nightly curfew until Monday morning.

LA MESA, CA — As protests and riots continue in San Diego County, the city of La Mesa has extended a citywide nightly curfew until next week.

The curfew order will be in effect nightly every evening from 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, through 5:30 a.m. Monday, June 8. Specifically, the curfew dates and times are as follows:

  • 7:00 p.m. June 3 to 5:30 a.m. June 4
  • 7:00 p.m. June 4 to 5:30 a.m. June 5
  • 7:00 p.m. June 5 to 5:30 a.m. June 6
  • 7:00 p.m. June 6 to 5:30 a.m. June 7
  • 7:00 p.m. June 7 to 5:30 a.m. June 8

The city has imposed a curfew since Sunday as a result of the devastating riots that left businesses damaged and destroyed in the city.

"During this time frame, citizens of La Mesa are encouraged to shelter in place — in a safe environment — for their personal safety," the city said in a statement.

The city declared a local emergency on Sunday. The City Council confirmed both the proclamation of local emergency and curfew order during an emergency meeting.
