Delayed Employment Report Has Good News for San Diego County

The state of California's monthly employment report, delayed for two months by the federal government shutdown, shows that the unemployment rate in San Diego County declined from 7.5 percent in August to 7.0 percent in October.

The report from the Employment Development Department on Friday showed that 1,486,300 people were employed in the county in October, 21,800 more than at the beginning of the year. The unemployment rate in January was 8.6 percent.

Phil Blair, president of Manpower San Diego, said "the addition of jobs in San Diego County is always good news. More people are reentering the job market because the economy is turning around and they should be able to find a position.”

San Diego's unemployment rate is much lower than for California as a whole, which was 8.7 percent in October, down from 8.9 percent in August.
