SANTEE, CA – A 28-year-old Santee man, identified as James Kenrod, was struck and killed over the weekend on Interstate 10 in the Cabazon area after his car was involved in an accident, according to authorities.

Kenrod had exited his car after it was involved in a crash Saturday around 7 p.m. in the middle of westbound I-10 west of Haugen-Lehmann Way, the California Highway Patrol said.

CHP Officer Darren Meyer said Kenrod was in a "non-injury traffic collision" and his 2014 Subaru Legacy became disabled in the number two lane.

"After the collision, the driver of the Subaru stepped out of his vehicle to inspect the damage," Meyer said. Meanwhile, a 58-year-old Alhambra man was approaching in a 2008 Honda CRV.

"While the Santee man was standing along the driver side of his vehicle, the Honda struck the Subaru from behind," Meyer said. "The man standing next to the Subaru was struck by both the Subaru and the Honda."
