La Mesa National All-Stars Still Perfect in District 33 Tourney

A 6-1 win over previously unbeaten Lake Murray moves LMN Little League squad into the driver's seat.

Nate Jarvis celebrated his 13th birthday Thursday evening by pitching a near-complete game victory for the La Mesa National All-Stars in their drive to the District 33 playoff championship.

The big right-hander reached his pitch-count limit with two outs in the sixth after a walk and hit batter. By that time LMNLL had all but wrapped up its 6-1 win over the Lake Murray All-Stars, thanks in part to three hits and two runs scored by leadoff man and catcher Jack Arvizu. Jarvis also added a double as La Mesa built a 3-0 lead before Lake Murray scored its lone run in the third.

The game was played at Murphy Canyon Little League's Damato Field, where La Mesa National's 11-12 team can wrap up the district title with a win on Sunday at 6 p.m. Lake Murray and San Carlos, each with one loss in the double-elimination tourney, meet at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Chollas Lake for the right to face La Mesa National on Sunday.

Since LMNLL is still unbeaten, a loss Sunday by coach L.B. Havird's team would set up a deciding game Monday at 6:30 at Damato Field in Murphy Canyon.
